I am 22 wks and just today i started getting really sharp pains in my lower back on the right side & sometimes i get them in my stomach as well..A few times today the pain has been so bad i couldnt even lay down.. but its not a constant pain its only sharp pains every once in a while and when i try to lay down... i can feel around and the baby is laying where the pains are coming from... I was told that the baby could be laying or pressing on my kidney and that could be causing the sharp pains.. Is it possibe that the pain is being caused by that?

My brothers girlfriend had that and we took her into the hospital. They told her she was extremely dehydrated and that pregnant women are suppose to drink 12 oz of liquid an hour. So maybe that's it? also you could be having braxton hicks! Hope you feel better :)

I think you can have braxton hicks at any time past 20 weeks. But im not really sure. Sometimes I have sharp pains when she moves or pushes up on my stomach. Do you think she could be pinching a nerve?

thats what i was thinking is that it might be a nerve... because its not a constant pain its when she moves around in one spot or just gets still and lays there...

braxton hicks can begin as early as 16 weeks but more commonly after 20 weeks. they often go un-noticed (but trust me they don't always lol) They are not usually 'sharp' or cause sharp back pain although they can still be painful. Thinking about anatomy it may be unlikely that the baby is high enough to have reached level with the kidneys. Like ciarabrazil said, you may well be dehydrated, or that the baby is giving your uterus a real good work out on that side lol drink plenty and ask your OB for advice as they are more aware of your stage of pregnancy, size and past medical history. Hope it goes away soon for you x

It could be Braxton Hicks OR it could also be your ligaments stretching. Does it hurt wrose when you move a certain way? I know you said when you lay down, it could be that stuff is stretching in there. With my first pregnancy every time I tried to get up from laying down I would get sharp pains, it almost felt like I pulled my uterus! lol. Sounds odd, but that's what it felt like.

I got Braxton hicks starting at 18 weeks, but I don't think that's what you have. Braxton-hicks contractions aren't sharp pains. It seems like what you're describing is what I had around 25 weeks. It was definately a sharp pain that came and went, and it did seem like it was where the baby was lying or the position the baby was in. I went in to my Dr office for it. One night I was almost in tears it hurt so bad, and I couldn't lay down either. It was almost like really really bad gas or something. My Dr. couldn't find anything wrong, it had to have been just the babys position pushing on my ligaments. Best advice I can give you is: Stay hydrated! and lay on your left side. You can take Tylenol if the pain is bad. I haven't had it since about 25 weeks.
