TMI Help! Can't touch cervix...?

Topics: 61   Posts: 181

Me and my hubby usually do self exams when I am worried at home that I might be dialating and it helps me not to worry when everything is fine. However I went to check today standing up and laying down and couldn't touch it. My husband tried while I was laying down and couldn't find it either. I have been having some weird abdomen feelings. Sort of like tightening feeling but when I touch my stomach it is loose still. I have gas and the baby is moving around ever so slightly as well. My vaginal bones have started aching as well. I think I might just be worrying too much. I am afraid of having a miscarriage or premature baby. I am only 13 weeks. I plan to call the dr in the am to see what they say since there is no bleeding or anything sever I am just going to keep my eye on it and try to relax.

So I found my cervix which is tilted backward like my dr had said. I felt from the tip to the uterus which was only around 1 1/2 cm long and the normal is 3cm or more.

Is this something that has only just been discovered? or did your doctor know about this before? it may be that you have always has a short cervix but your doctor never made you aware of it. I think you are right to see your doctor about your discovery so he/she can decide if it will cause any problems later. They may suggest a vaginal ultrasound to get a true picture of the size and state of your cervix and if necessary they may suggest a cerclage (stitch to ensure it remains closed). However it may be that the length was underestimated and all is fine. Your uterus is now over your pubic bone so this could be the cause of the aching but still, a check would be a good idea. If it is short it's good it has been discovered early to prevent problems but it is not recommended that the cervix is tampered with particularly during pregnancy hence the reason for no having pap smears or internal exams until after delivery (or when checking dilation during labour) :~)

I recommend that you discuss your fears with your doctor; schedule an extra appointment if necessary since this is worrying you. In the meantime, try not to worry and do not overdo it with the checking at home. As your uterus grows, things will shift, and it seems that your cervix has begun to point backwards a bit, but that should not be a problem. If you feel cramping or have any vaginal spotting or unusual discharge, stop putting anything into your vagina and call your doctor. Please keep us posted about your progress with your pregnancy.

with the cervix it is suppose to be wayyy back their while prego, and I have heard its normal for you to go your whole pregnancy with it slightly dilated. When I personally do self exams and I can't find it, I know everything is fine. With this pregnancy I look for the symptoms because when I had my 2 miscarriages all of my prego symptoms disappeared right away. I am a cosmo inn training, I would suggest going in getting a shampoo in blow dry lol, and a hand arm massage are even a full prego body massage you and me both need some time for are selves and when you get pampered a little bit you feel a lot better!
