Pumping more often will make your breasts continue to make milk. If you're having trouble with latch and that's why you want to stop I would go to your OBGYN, Midwife, Doula, Breastfeeding Counselor, or a Lactation Counselor. All those people should be able to help. If you want to stop nursing but still using breastmilk then you can pump. You will need to pump everytime he takes a bottle to keep your supply up. Which is usually every 2-3 hours. You should pump for about 10-20 minutes to make sure you get all the milk out. If you use formula you're still going to need to pump every time he eats or your milk will start to decrease. If you just don't want to nurse or pump then you shouldn't nurse or pump to stop making milk and there are teas out there to help with drying up. My advice to you is to not give up just yet. Babies can take weeks to get a proper latch. I struggled with Liev for about 2 months with him. It takes time.

Awe don't give up, it takes time, have you tried nipple shields? Sometimes that helps with latching but if you really want to stop you should be able to just stop without weaing since he is just days old. Pumping will probably keep making you produce milk so you just want to stop all together if your wanting to quit.

If I may ask, why are you wanting to stop breastfeeding? Since you wanted to breastfeed your baby, and breastfeeding is not only much healthier for you both, but also much easier (once you get the hang of it), and it will save you hundreds of dollars as well, I would really hate to see you stop. If you are having problems, I would encourage you to ask for help at your local WIC office, and see if the hospital you use has Lactation Consultants. Most breastfeeding problems can be solved with the right kind of help, and even if you have been using bottles and formula it is not too late to get your baby breastfeeding again. Feel free to ask if you have questions we can help you with. If you do stop, your milk will dry up within a few days, and you do not have to do anything special to make that happen.
