Some doctors will suggest inducing labor if you go past your due date, but dates can be wrong, and many inductions result in C sections because labor does not start; also many babies are born a bit too early and have feeding or breathing difficulties because of induction before they were quite ready to be born. I would try to wait two full weeks past the due date unless there is a reason (baby showing signs of distress, mom's health in danger, etc). Most women will go into labor by the 40th week or sooner. Your doctor is the best person to advise you, and you should see your doctor often when close to or past your due date to be sure mom and baby are both still doing well.
