weaning my two year old.

Hi everyone! My daughter just turned two last month, and I have been fortunate to have been able to breastfeed her since birth. Of course, we have decreased the amount of nursing that happens on a daily basis over time, but I feel that it is time to come to a stop. I am not sure where to begin. I am looking for any suggestions about how I might go about doing this. I know that naptimes and bedtime are going to become a challenge, but I really need some positive support and some ideas about the healthiest possible way for the both of us to make this huge transition. Thanks so much in advance.

I am in the same situation with Caleb and he is 18 months.  I was hoping to have him weaned by now but he still wants to the boobie.  He calls it boob boob...it is cute.  I called the breastfeeding clinic and they suggested to not rush and try to distract him by giving him extra cuddles and not to upset him.  I don't offer it like I use to but only when he wants it.  He mostly nurses a little at night and occasionally in the morning.  I didn't finally get him out of the habit at night but it took me 17 months for him to stop nursing at night.  It took two weeks with daddy's help by going in his room to offer water and try to get him settled back to bed.  I don't offer to nurse in the night no more!

I really don't know I had it really fortunate with both of my kids who just stopped at 12 months. The first thing I did a month before wanting to quit was take away around times that they needed it for comfort (night times, nap times, and waking up) Then a month later it was like they didn't care for it anymore because those were the times they wanted it the most. GOOD LUCK! I might need it if this next one isn't the same. :)
