Smoking

Topics: 4   Posts: 31

Before everyone yells at me, I know its bad to smoke while pregnant-

I am trying my best to quit, but I end up having break downs...

Everyone in my family smokes. I need a better support system...

Has anyone quit smoking? If so, what techniques worked for you?

Quit? Quit? I have been giving up for years and have tried every single NRT available!! The only one that was close to working was chapix (low dose though, the higher dose gave me horrific side effects). It was brilliant! But unfortunately because it has not had any trials done during pregnancy its safety is not known therefore it has been a case of better the devil you know. I too have cut down but seem completely unable to stop entirely despite knowing better and filling my head with all the reasons not to. it seems that it's easy until the craving hits. I cannot smoke menthol cigarettes so I find substituting a cigarette for a stick of gum helps massively reduce my smoking but as yet I am failing miserably at quitting completely. I worked a short period with a smoking cessation nurse and Oh there are loads of suggestions I could make but I am sure you have had them all given to you.

I dont understand it though. My last pregnancy I was able to quit... not easily, but I was able too... I think it was becuase my ex put me through a lot of guilt... Dang! I just hate trying, and failing. Unless you have been there, you have no idea how hard it is... Thank you for your input :)

With my other two pregnancies smoking was a massive aversion for me so I found I didn't miss them although the craving came back with a vengeance after delivery. This time its not the case, plus I have had added pressure so it's quite the miracle that I have reduced and not increased lol I have never known anything so difficult to quit and I have always said that ex smokers are the worst critics too

I quiet before I became pregnant, I got with a man that hates cigarettes so that really helped me to quiet, I just quiet cold turkey.

I quit when i was like 3 weeks pregnant! thats actually how I found out i was pregnant... They make me VERY sick just the smell does.. I want to throw up everything i even smell it... But i guess thats an easier way to quit and I just lucky that they made me sick because i dnt have any cravings for them at all and havent one single time since i quit....

I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my first child. After he was a little over a year old I started smoking again for about two weeks, and then decided I didn't want to smoke anymore, so I quit for good. I haven't had any since then. I just quit cold turkey.

Yeah, it is hard when your partner smokes also. But Im not giving up.. My next quit day is Saturday... I feel rediculous buying them when I have a preggo belly. I have another ultrasound soon, so that itself will help encourage me.
