Getting your membranes stripped

So i was supposed to make a date today to get induced next week but there were no dates opened so my doctor said next week he will strip my membranes as a loop hole to not having a date opened! haha! but my question is what exactly do they do when they strip your membranes because i have heard it is very painful!
