I think that every parent does what in their opinion is best for their children. You know the facts, now it's up to you to decide what you think is best - it's your child. I am not a critic or scientist, I couldn't tell you the stats off the top of my head, but I do know that either way there are risks, as with everything else in this world. On that note, Sadie is still co-sleeping (she's 3 and is taking over my bed!!) and has been since she was a newborn. We have been trying to get her to sleep on her own, but she always finds her way back with us. I think this is definitley a drawback of co-sleeping - they develop the need to sleep with mom and dad and it is very hard to get them to sleep alone. My son Mason is almost 9 months old and he has been a crib sleeper from the get-go. When I put him in his bassinet that first night back from the hospital, he slept through the night without waking. I had to wake up at 7 to realize my newborn did not wake through the night. I had to wake him up myself! So all in all, with my first baby, I was more afraid of SIDS than anything and I figured that if I had her close to me then nothing was going to happen because I would be right there if anything went wrong. And that was ok because it worked for me. I learned with my second baby, I let him sleep and found that it wasn't bad to let them sleep alone either. Hope this helps for those who are unsure, but to be honest, advice is just what it is - somebody elses opinion. Do what you want to do for your child, what you think is best! : )
