Breastfeeding causing extra gassiness?

Topics: 5   Posts: 14

Ok as I said my daughter is a month old well actually 6weeks now, & she has been gassy since birth but lately she has been extra gassy. And is in pain almost all day long anymore. I have tried to have extra feedings but Im afraid its making it worse. And then I have been trying to take thingso ut of my diet but its very hard & it will still take a whole 2more weeks before I know if that has any effect on it. But it seems like she is having trouble trying to poop, but I read that breastdfed babies can't be constipated. But it seems like my daughter is. And her poops have still been somewhat green. But I have had a slight belly ache for the past week also could that have an effect on my daughter? But bc of the pains from what seems to be her trying to poop- my mother has insisted on trying caro syrup with water & also peppermint water. But after her giving this stuff to my daughter(at different times) I read that this could possibly do harm to her. But I forget where I found this info, so I don't know what kind of harm or if it truly could. So if anyone has any advice on how to help the gassiness go a way or if the caro & peppermint water could harm her or anything else pleaseeeeee do post comments ofr me or msg me. thank you in advance.

The most likely cause of gassiness in a fullly breastfed baby is milk and other dairy products in your diet. For about 2 weeks, eliminate all sources of dairy including milk, yogurt, cheese, and hidden dairy such as milk based ingredients in baked goods, etc. (read the labels). See if that helps solve your baby's problem. I definitely would not give any other substances such as Karo or herbal remedies to your baby. Anything else that you give her interferes with the perfect breastfed state of her intestinal tract, introducing foreign substances that could cause problems. Let me know if eliminating dairy products helps or not, and if not, I will make suggestions for other things it might be. Good luck! :-)
