Im just wondering if Braxton Hicks contractions are usually painful?  I know what im experiencing is braxton hicks because I tlkd to a nurse about it at the dr last week. But just the past few days they have been kinda painful and i just wasnt sure if they are usually painful or not.

Hell yes!!! I have been really suffering this time around, if it wasn't for having given birth before I can understand why some first time mums mistake them for the real thing. Some women are lucky and don't have the pain and just feel tightening (which I started with at about 16 weeks). Thankfully when they say "when the time comes you'll know", they actually mean it lol

Yes, Braxton Hicks contractions can hurt; some women report that they feel just like labor. The difference is that these "practice contractions" are usually irregular and do not cause the cervix to dilate. If your contractions become regular, especially if they increase in length and/or intensity, call your doctor or go in and be checked.

Thanks! I was just wondering because a nurse i had tlkd to said that they wouldnt ever hurt me but I knew that had to be wrong! It isnt an unbearable pain it just hurts for a few minutes. and Sometimes ill only get the tightening and no pain.

I have that too, its a welcome break from the painful ones lol I had to laugh at a nurse who described braxton hicks as "painless practice contractions", then went on to say "but many mothers do say they are very painful". I never did get an explanation as to why she can describe them that way then contradict herself lol
