It's best to wait a few weeks until they have established good breastfeeding, if you're nursing. Otherwise they can lose their natural suck because some pacifires, well most actually, don't require a baby to curl their tongue around it like they do when nursing.
Liev, he's 5 months, and takes a pacifire. I use The First Years Soothie pacifire. Liev curls his tongue around that and has not had problems with breastfeeding from the use of his pacifire, but I didn't use it right away. I would use your breast for a pacifire for right now so that Ryan can get use to sucking.

It's really up to you, I gave mine one when she was days old and we were successful at breastfeeding so I really think it is up to you.

The recommendation for breastfeeding babies is to wait until breastfeeding is well established before giving a pacifier, and never to use the pacifier to hold off a feeding when your baby is hungry. Your breast is the best and most natural pacifier for your baby.
